The first thing that you’ll notice is that our community is still in building phase. If you’re looking for a rapid-fire online forum with new posts every hour, you won’t find it here. We’d say check back in a few months time, but truthfully that’s not what we are about. Traversity is about quality engagement and content over high volume information exchange. That’s something that is new to a lot of people, and we know not it’s not for everyone. But we deeply believe that it’s what is needed to advance healthcare delivery, so we are channelling our inner tortoise and sticking with it.
The Traversity community is structured like an old school internet forum, but with a bit more functionality thanks to Discourse. If you've never participated in a forum before you'll notice some differences from other social media.
In most mainstream social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc) information is contributed through posts which are presented to you in a news feed to interact with. This news feed changes pretty rapidly. If you haven't checked in for a few days it can be hard to see if you've missed anything that you're interested in.
In Traversity, information is contributed through topics which are organised in discussion forums or categories. It's much less rapid-fire than social media, allowing discussions to play out over time. This allows you to stop and think about something before you respond. It also means you can engage in a broader range of topics. You might find a topic you're interested in months after it was originally posted and re-initiate the discussion by offering a reply. Fear of missing out doesn't exist here.
You'll see the discussion forum categories listed on the community home page.
Traversity members have access to all general discussion forums except those in the Getting it Done category; that category is restricted to members who have provided evidence that they are healthcare practitioners.
In addition to the general Traversity discussion forums, we can also host discussion forums sponsored by organisations. These may be restricted in their access, demonstrated by the padlock symbol. If you're an organisation looking for an alternative to mainstream social media or custom built forums, get in touch about hosting your discussion on Traversity.
If you've never participated in a discussion forum before, the best way to learn is to join in and explore. Don't worry, you're not going to break anything! Click on topics and discover what is being talked about. If there's something to read that was of value to you, show your appreciation by liking the post. If there is a discussion you want to contribute to, hit reply. If you want to start a conversation, go to the category you're interested in and click New topic.
So what are you waiting for? Come and help us get the conversation going!
