Traversity started as an experiment. Lauren wanted to see if there were others out there that felt the way she did about healthcare, and that connecting people together could be a way to overcome some of the challenges out there. Initially I supported Lauren on this experiment by deploying a Discourse instance that would let her start to test her ideas. Through hashing things out ourselves and through feedback from some early members, we now think that this platform is worth continuing to build. And that means we need to change a few things.
To me, there is nothing more important than protecting the confidentiality of information on the Traversity platform. It is a core part of our brand and our promise to our members that the information you share and work with in this platform is held in robust technical platforms backed by enterprise-grade policies and procedures.
The way that members currently sign into the platform is using Discourse. This information is stored on an encrypted virtual machine hosted in a secure cloud provider. While this method is adequate for Discourse only, it isn't going to serve our needs going forward.
Upgrading to enterprise-grade identity management
We need to upgrade to a higher level of capability so that we can deliver more functionality to you, such as multi-factor authentication (SMS codes or TOTP authenticators), biometrics (Windows Hello or Apple Face ID or Touch ID) or digital security keys (such as the Yubikey). We have selected a global platform deployed by Microsoft which delivers sophisticated identity management capabilities, and advanced threat management features. By deploying this platform, we can leverage these capabilities to ensure your private information remains private. The first thing we need to do is to migrate our members to a new platform.
How will the migration work?
Because we encrypt your passwords there is no way we can migrate you behind the scenes, but we have made the process as smooth as possible. We'll send you an email which will outline the steps you need to follow:
- You'll receive an email with a specially coded link. Click on this link to start the migration process.
- The new identity platform will present a "Sign Up" page which will have your details pre-filled. All you have to do is re-enter your password, or create a new one.
- That's it! The migration is done and you will login via the new identity platform from now on.
Please note that you must migrate your account. Accounts that are not migrated will not work anymore. You can, however, re-register with the same email address to claim your account without going through clicking the link in your email account. In this case you will need to verify that you are the owner of your registered email address.
When will the new system switch over?
We are aiming to switch to the new system on Friday April 10 2020.
What if I have questions?
